This page explains the cookies and local browser storage used when you visit govll.org and its services, such as vote.govll.org, petitions.govll.org, careers.govll.org, police.govll.org and transport.govll.org. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. They let a site remember you, keep it working properly and, in some cases, measure how it is used. Similar browser storage, such as local storage, can remember information without using a cookie, and we include it here. Some technologies are strictly necessary to deliver a service or keep it secure. Optional ones normally need your choice before they are used.
What we use
We only use strictly necessary cookies and storage. These are needed for the site to work, to keep it secure, or to do something you asked for, so they do not need consent. We do not use advertising, tracking or analytics cookies.

The Cloudflare cookie name and lifetime are set by Cloudflare and can change. Cloudflare's own policy is the final word on that one. The main govll.org website is not served through Cloudflare.
Cookies for staff only
Staff who sign in to our content management systems, or to the private statistics dashboard at stats.govll.org, get extra sign-in and security cookies (for example authelia_session on stats.govll.org). These are strictly necessary to keep staff accounts secure. Ordinary visitors never get them.
Content from other companies
A few of our services load content directly from other companies. We do not set cookies for them, but your browser connects to them, so they receive your IP address and browser details, and their own cookie and privacy policies apply:
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com) on police.govll.org, transport.govll.org and kingsmail.govll.org, to load typefaces.
- YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) on petitions.govll.org, only if a petition page includes a video. YouTube may store information in your browser if you play the video.
Website statistics do not use an analytics cookie
The web server records ordinary request data when it delivers a page, including IP address, time, requested host and path, response information, referrer and browser user-agent. The Royal Office of Digital Infrastructure (RODI) processes these logs into aggregate operational statistics displayed on the protected stats.govll.org service. This happens on the server and does not place an analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking cookie on your device.
Request records are combined into aggregate totals rather than used to create visitor profiles. IP addresses are anonymised on the dashboard, and it only shows countries, not more precise locations. Confidential raw logs are available only to authorised personnel when required for security, fault investigation or law, and are normally deleted after 14 days. Optional cookies
We do not currently use optional advertising, behavioural or audience-analytics cookies. If that changes, we will update this page and, where required, ask for your choice before placing them. Refusing an optional cookie would not stop you accessing the public website.
How to manage cookies and storage
You can delete or block cookies and clear local storage in your browser settings. Most browsers let you do this under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking the session cookies may stop forms, sign-in or other secure functions from working. Clearing govll_legal_notice_v1 will make the first-visit notice appear again, and clearing nllp-alert-dismissed will bring back a police alert banner you closed.
